Guwahati: In a significant development for devotees in the Northeast, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Tuesday officially acquired possession of a 10-acre plot at Amerigog village in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district for the construction of a Sri Venkateswara temple.

The project is part of a broader initiative by the Andhra Pradesh government to establish temples dedicated to Lord Venkateswara in every State and Union Territory across the country. The proposal gained momentum after discussions between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a meeting held in Guwahati last year.

The upcoming temple, envisioned as the first of its kind in the Northeast, is expected to become a major spiritual destination for devotees from the region. Officials said the site has been selected in a scenic area located between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, offering a serene setting for worship and pilgrimage.

Authorities from both Andhra Pradesh and Assam are currently coordinating to finalise the project’s next phase, including preparations for the foundation stone-laying ceremony.

Speaking about the initiative, Naidu said the temple would hold special significance as it is being established in the land of Maa Kamakhya, one of the country’s most revered pilgrimage centres. He noted that the shrine would make it easier for devotees from the Northeast to seek the blessings of Lord Venkateswara without undertaking frequent journeys to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

The proposed temple is expected to strengthen cultural and spiritual ties between the Northeast and southern India while providing a new centre of faith for lakhs of devotees in the region.
