Guwahati: In a significant relief for government employees and pensioners, the Assam Cabinet has approved a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR), raising the existing rate from 58 per cent to 60 per cent.
Announcing the decision on Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the enhanced allowance will take effect from July and will benefit more than eight lakh serving employees and retired personnel across the state.
The Chief Minister stated that the government remains committed to safeguarding the interests of its workforce and pensioners, acknowledging their contribution to Assam’s progress and development. He described them as key stakeholders in the state’s growth journey and emphasized the administration’s continued focus on their welfare.
The revised DA and DR rates are expected to provide additional financial support to beneficiaries amid increasing living expenses. The enhanced amount will be reflected in payments from July onwards.
The latest revision comes as part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen social security measures and improve the financial well-being of employees and pensioners. Officials said the move will offer much needed relief to thousands of families while reinforcing the government’s employee-centric approach.
With the increase taking effect next month, over eight lakh beneficiaries are set to receive higher payouts under the revised Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief structure.
