In a setback to the ULFA (Independent) as many as six cadres of the banned militant outfit surrendered before the police in Tinsukia district on Thursday.

The surrendered ultras were identified as self-styled sergeant Pranab Gogoi alias Suklang Asom, 35, of Ghilagurigaon of Namrup in Dibrugarh, self-styled lance corporal Apurba Moran alias Mridul Asom, 24, of Pithaguti gaon in Philobari in Tinsukia, self-styled seargant Satyajit Moran alias Manab Asom, 30, of Borali gaon in Kakopathar in Tinsukia district, self-styled seargant major Jishu Doley alias Syang Asom, 28, of Amarpur in Sadiya, Tinsukia, self-styled lance corporal Rituraj Moran alias Durlov Asom, 31, of Hatigarh in Tongona, Tinsukia and self-styled seargant major Abhijit Gohain alias Anuj Asom, 27, from Rajabari gaon in Dibrugarh.

The surrendered ultras deposited a large quantity of arms and ammunitions including an AK-56 rifle, one MQ-81 assault rifle and one HK-33 rifle.

The ULFA (I) has hit hard after demonatization and facing problem for their daily needs and geared up in the extortion activities in upper Assam area.

Recently, the outfit kidnapped Dinanath Upadhaya, a supervisor of tea estate owned by Radha Chetia. The ULFA (I) has demand Rs 3 crore for his release.

Meanwhile, the Facebook authorities have blocked Ulfa (Independent)’s account after Assam police requested the US-based Facebook authorities to block the account of the rebel outfit.

The request comes as the banned outfit opened a new account hours after the first one was blocked by the police.

The outfit had announced on Friday that it had created a Facebook account to make social media a part of its “revolutionary journey as an experiment”.
