Imphal: A bullet-riddled body of a man was recovered at Yaralpat village in Imphal East district of Manipur early Thursday morning.

The deceased, Waikhom Sanatomba (28), a resident of Kharasom Makha Leikai of the same district, was found with two gunshot wounds.

The body was discovered at around 5.30 am on Thursday by a group of people on their morning walk, who soon informed the police.

A team from the Porompat police station rushed to the spot and a forensic team was later requisitioned.

After preliminary investigation, the body was sent to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) in Imphal for a post-mortem examination.

The villagers of Yaralpat said they heard gunshots in the wee hours of Thursday.

Sanatomba was apparently killed after being abducted.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the murder of Sanatomba so far.

A case has been registered at the Porompat police station and investigation into the matter is underway.
