Seven people, including a woman, lost their lives after consuming country liquor at Barpathar are in upper Assam’s Golaghat district.
Locals said several people in Singimari and adjoining villages under Barpathar police station taken ill after consuming illicit liquor. They were admitted to local government hospital and in the last two days, seven have reportedly died.

Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra has directed district superintendent of excise Bhaben Phukon to visit the area. A magisterial inquiry into the incident has also been instituted and Dhansiri SDO (Civil) Bipul Das has been directed to conduct the probe.
Meanwhile, police have detained two persons – one suspected of supplying the hooch and another reportedly selling it from his kiosk near the affected villages.
