The foundation of the temple had been laid by the then Assam Governor JB Patnaik on December 13, 2012.

Nayak, a plumbing contractor, said that the seventy feet temple had been built with only bricks and cements and was structurally as close to the original as possible.

The three deities of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were of one piece wood and three feet in height.

The 2.5 katha of land had been donated by Shankar Birla, a reputed businessman of Guwahati. The total cost of the structure was Rs 400 crore which came from donations.

Nayak said that from this year, Rath Yatra would be held here.

“It is very difficult for people here to go all the way to Puri every year and this temple will fulfil the need of the people,” he said.
