S. Ranjana Chanu of Assam Rifles, who participated in the first round of the AFC Women’s Olympics Qualifying Tournament in Myanmar, has now been selected for the second round of the Women’s Olympics Football 2020 to be held in Japan.

Informing this, the Assam Rifles on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday stated: “S. Ranjana Chanu of Assam Rifles participated in the AFC Women’s Olympics Qualifying Tournament (1st Round) in Myanmar & she is further selected for participation in Women’s Olympics Football 2020 (2nd Round) in Japan.”

It may be mentioned that the Indian women’s football team, which also includes Assam Rifles’ S. Ranjana Chanu, qualified for the Olympic Qualifiers second round on November 13, 2018 for the first time, despite going down to hosts Myanmar 1-2 in a hard-fought clash at Yangon.

It was reported that the Indian women’s team advanced to the second round after finishing second in Group C with 4 points from 3 matches.

The second round of the Olympic Qualifiers will be played in April next year in Japan.

The Indian women’s team went into the match with the same starting lineup from their 7-1 win against Bangladesh.
