With the model code of conduct having come into effect ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Assam, Mukesh Sahu, has ordered for the removal of all government hoardings, advertisements, wall advertisements, wall writings and posters immediately, according to a report in TOI.
This came after the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary Ranjan Bora requested the CEO in a letter to take down all government posters and hoardings instantly.

Sahu mentioned that already action has been taken as part of the standard procedure. “Removal of the hoardings and advertisement began in the state immediately after the announcement of the date of the polls on Sunday,” he noted.
Also, in a meeting held on Monday between the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration with top officials of the district administration, the police and other agencies including the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) discussed the ways and means to ensure no violation of the model code of conduct takes place in Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency.
Further vigilance to ensure no lapse in following the model code of conduct will come in the form of setting up of a round-the-clock model code of conduct monitoring cell by the metro administration. An additional deputy commissioner-level officer will be in charge as the nodal officer of the cell.
