With the model code of conduct coming into force with immediate effect after the Election Commission announcing the schedule for Lok Sabha elections on Sunday the district administration of Udalguri in Assam and its election officials got down to work for holding a fair and square polls for the 8 No Mangaldai LS constituency which will go on polls on April 18.

Udalguri district covers four Assembly constituencies namely – 64 Paneri LAC, 65 Kalaigaon LAC,69 Udalguri LAC (ST) and 70 Mazbat LAC. But ECI has put 65 Kalaigaon LAC under the control of Darrang district administration for convenience.

An urgent election meeting was conveyed at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri on Monday at 1 pm. It was presided over by the deputy commissioner cum returning officer, Udalguri, Dilip Kumar Das.

The meeting was attended by representatives of all political parties and mediapersons of print and broadcast media.

Speaking on the occasion, Das explained about the urgency of following and monitoring of the model Ccde of conduct in the district till the announcement of the LS results.

Referring to a few sensitive issues, he informed the media and political parties that no election meeting or campaign would be allowed in any religious institutions. Use of microphone or loud speakers too would be banned from 10 pm to 6 am. The deputy commissioner also strictly warned all not to use photos of defense personnel to woo voters during election campaign.

ADC Udalguri, Amarjyoti Barman also briefed media and political leaders in the meeting. He informed that nine numbers of static surveillance teams, six numbers of video surveillance teams and one video viewing team would be monitoring the LS poll activities in the district till the date of the poll. He exhorted people to install vigil application from Google Play Store in android devices for instant uploading of any complaints or videos against the violation of MCC.

He also requested people to use 1950 (Voters Helpline Number) anytime till the poll is over.The meeting was also attended by project director, Udalguri, Pranjit Wary;
SDO (Civil), Bhergaon sub-division, Gokul Brahma; District Election Officer,Nilotpal Pathak and Nilakshi Baishya, assistant commissioner, Udalguri, among others.
