Haflong: To raise awareness and prevent child marriage, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa announced that those involved in child marriage will not receive Permanent Residency Certificates (PRC) and other benefits from the council in Dima Hasao, Assam.
Gorlosa made this declaration while addressing a program to launch the Mukhya Mantri Nijus Moina Scheme (MMNMS) for Dima Hasao district at Haflong Government College Auditorium on Thursday.

The CEM was accompanied by Assam Minister for Power, Nandita Gorlosa, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Executive Member Rupali Langthasa, Dima Hasao DC Simanta Kumar Das, Haflong Government College Principal Sarbojit Thaosen, and former Principal Madhumita Daulagupu.
He added that like the Assam government, the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council will take stringent measures to prevent child marriage by introducing a new law.
This law will prohibit those who commit child marriage from obtaining PRC and other facilities provided by the council under its Sixth Schedule.

The MMNMS scheme aims to promote higher education among young girls and prevent child marriage.
Under this scheme, a monthly financial grant of Rs 1,000 will be provided to female students to encourage them to continue their studies without facing financial burdens.
The launch program was held at various schools and colleges across Dima Hasao, in addition to the central program at Haflong Government College Auditorium.
