The Bharat Bandh, called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) against fuel price hike, affected normal life in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts.

Though the Government offices functioned normally, vehicular traffic was off the roads.

In Diphu, the roads wore a deserted look with only a few private vehicles plying and no public transport was there.

All business establishments remained closed.

Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee president and MP Biren Singh Engti along with former MLA Bidya Sing Engleng, district Mahila Congress president Kasang Terangpi and others were detained while taking out a procession from the party office in support of the bandh from Rongpharpi Rongbe traffic intersection here.

They were detained in Diphu Police Station for a few hours and were released at 3 pm.

The essential services were not affected during the bandh hours.

The police and paramilitary personnel guarded the sensitive areas. All educational institutions remained closed on the day and parents were seen returning home from the schools along with their wards.

There was no vehicular traffic on the National Highway 36 and 39.

Bokajan witnessed a total shutdown along with the rest of the district.

In West Karbi Anglong too,  educational institutions, businesses establishments, markets remained closed while  there was no public transport during the bandh period.

Only a few private vehicles were seen plying on the roads. Train services were not affected and there was no report of any untoward incident in the district.

Karbi Anglong District Mahila Congress Committee president Kasang Terangpi informed that they would submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner regarding the fuel price hike on September 13.
