Bajali: The Bajali District Students’ Union has demanded an immediate review of the changes in police-station jurisdictions affecting villages under Assam’s Bajali district, stating that the administrative identity and interests of the people must be protected.
The demand comes after an official notice detailing changes in the jurisdictions of Patacharkuchi and Pathsala Police Stations.
According to the notice, 35 villages have been excluded from Patacharkuchi Police Station and included under Barpeta Road Police Station, while another 15 villages have been excluded from Patacharkuchi Police Station and included under Howly Police Station.
This means a total of 50 villages have been moved out of Patacharkuchi Police Station’s jurisdiction.
The notice also states that 13 villages have been newly included under Pathsala Police Station under Bajali LAC, having been transferred from Sarnberbari Police Station under Barpeta LAC.
Reacting to the development, Parshwa Patgiri, General Secretary of Bajali District Students’ Union (AASU), said, “Don’t play with the emotions of the people of Bajali.”
The Bajali students’ body has demanded the swift recognition and clear demarcation of the boundaries of Bajali district, along with a review of the police-station jurisdiction changes.
The organisation urged the authorities to reconsider the changes and ensure that administrative decisions do not create confusion or inconvenience for the people of Bajali.
