Assam Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika, on Monday made a sudden visit to the Mangaldai Civil Hospital.

The Minister accompanied by BJP’s Mangaldai MLA Gurujyoti Das, executive director of National Health Mission I(NHM) Dr Asyut Baisya and Darrang Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ashok Kr Barman, Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang, Dr Ruplal Nunisa  reportedly inquired about the unauthorized absence of doctors and other staff members in duty, prescribing of generic drugs available in the hospital, rationalization of the nursing staff attached, etc.

Minister Hazarika also held a brief close-door discussion with the health officials in the office chamber of the Superintendent of the civil hospital.

The Minister also directed the authorities concerned to take disciplinary action against the pharmacist of the hospital and the accountant of the hospital management committee.

Surprisingly, the Minister of State for Health didn’t mention anything regarding early functioning of the Rs 70 crore 100-bedded Maternity and Child Health Hospital, which has been left abandoned for more than two years, improving the existing poor infrastructure of the civil hospital.
