Frequent power cuts at Bajali in Barpeta district of Assam has become the order of the day. People are spending sleepless nights in this sweltering summer due to “long hours of loadshedding”. For people of Bajali, power has become a ‘blink-and-you-miss-me-affair’.

Due to long hours of outage, people’s day-to-day activities are getting hampered. With summer proving to be a scorcher, people are frequently falling sick due to “excessive sweating for lack of electricity”. The worst sufferers are children, infants and the elderly people. The business community is also suffering “huge losses” due to “frequent brownouts”.

Few residents of Bajali area told this correspondent that “long hours of loadshedding was especially affecting the students as it is impossible for them to study in this humid weather that too without light and fan”.

The people of Bajali have urged the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) authorities as well as the State Government to give priority to the matter of “fixing the power lines” and make people’s life more “liveable”. Long hours of outages are forcing the people to lead wretched and miserable lives.

The residents say that the Sonowal Government had promised just prior to the 2016 elections that people of Assam would get 24-hour power supply. But, going by the condition of the people of Bajali, this promise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government has just remained a mere promise, “rather a farce”.
