The administration of Bajali sub-division of Barpeta district in Assam has come up with a novel idea to encourage bikers wear helmets.
From now on a biker without a helmet will not be allowed to buy fuel from any petrol pump across Bajali sub-division.
Concerned with the rising graph of two-wheeler accidents in the town, few months back sub-divisional magistrate of Bajali issued an order prohibiting petrol pumps from selling fuel to bikers without helmets.
The administration has also directed the fuel depot owners that they can’t sell ‘motor spirit’ to those who bring containers or bottles.
This also has come has a welcome step, as there are reports of hoarding and illegal trade of petrol or diesel in the region.
Meanwhile, the Civil Supplies Department under the direction of SDO civil of Bajali, acting on a tip off, conducted raids at several places and seized more than 200 litres of petrol which were ready for illegal sale at open market of Sarupeta area of Bajali sub-division in Barpeta district.
According to the information received that under the direction SDO (C) of Bajali subdivision, Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy P, the team raided several places in Bajali area and seized 30 litres and 20 litres of petrol from the possession of one Baikhunta Das and one Jahuruddin of village Geruapara under Sarupeta police outpost on Tuesday.
They also seized 115 litres of petrol and 115 litres of diesel from the possession of one Abdul Kalam of the same village.
It is learned that the accused persons have been storing petrol and diesel for illegal selling in open market.
It is also learnt that the Department will file an FIR against the accused person.
