In a bid to encourage the farmers and agri-preneurs, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Udalguri in Assam organized a day-long Kisan Mela at Bordoloi Bhawan hall at Tangla in Udalguri district on Wednesday.

The programme was graced by member of Lok Sabha, Ramen Deka which was also attended by a number of farmers and agripreneurs from nook and corners of the district including Rowta, Udalguri and Mazbat.

The participants through 25 mini stalls also displayed their handloom products including ‘aronai’, ‘kambang’, colourful ‘bihuwans’, traditional attires and agro-products including vegetables, black rice, varieties of ‘pithas’, edible mushrooms, livestocks including grey francolin, various species of ducks, hens and rabbits among others.
Inaugurating the event by lightning of lamp, parliamentarian Deka said that the India is an agriculture based country, where more than 50 per cent of population is dependant on agriculture. He briefed the gathering on the various pro-farmer schemes of the government and exhorted the young generation and women for adopting farm experimentation and technology application for making farming more profitable and building the economical structure of the nation.

In his welcome address, scientist,Dr M Neog exhorted the unemployed youths to adopt improved scientific technologies in farming for gaining profit and become financially independent. He also asked the farmers of the new generation to engage in bringing an agricultural revolution in the State.

The event concluded with a ceremony where progressive farmers and livestock-rearers namely Manmohan Boro, Abhinash Daimari, Prasanna Rabha, Kabita Bora, Apratim Bora, Amit Baglari, Raju Hasda were awarded with Pragatisil Krishak Award by KVK, Udalguri.
