Community level meeting on NRC at Kokrajhar. Northeast Now

A community level meeting on the publication of the second draft NRC was held at the auditorium of Basic Training Centre in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.

Organized by the Kokrajhar Revenue Circle, the meeting was attended by Kokrajhar circle office Dipenn Barman, office in-charge of Kokrajhar Police Station Binanda Basumatary, chairman of Kokrajhar Municipality Board Bishnu Narzary, several senior citizens and general public.

In the meeting, the Kokrajhar circle officer, Dipenn Barman informed the gathering about the present status of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update process and its preparedness for the final draft publication on June 30.

The NRC update process has been going on in the State under the supervision of the Supreme Court and the apex court has directed the authorities concerned to publish the complete draft NRC by June 31, 2018.

In his speech, office in-charge of Kokrajhar Police Station, Binanda Basumatary spoke on the security arrangements being by the police administration and its preparedness to tackle any untoward incidents during the final draft publication of the NRC as well as for present crisis over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2018 in the district.
