At a time when there has been upsurge in growing incidents of crimes against women, sensation prevails in Orang area of Udalguri district after a woman was allegedly set ablaze by her husband, Mofidul Islam at No 2 Kachari Bheti village on Wednesday.
The victim woman has been identified as 24-year-old Sufiya Khatun of No 2 Kachari Bheti village
under Orang Police Station in Udalguri district.
According to reports, the accused demanded dowry from his in-laws failing which he committed the crime.
The victim had given birth to a child only two weeks back at Orang Primary Health Centre.
The victim’s elder brother, who lodged an FIR, told police that Mofidul had been torturing Sufiya for the past few months for dowry.
“On Wednesday, Mofidul allegedly tried to kill Sufiya by setting her ablaze and also threatened to kill the child,” the complainant alleged.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.
