Assam’s two Congress Lok Sabha MPs Abdul Khaleque and Pradyut Bordoloi have donated their monthly salaries as relief for the ongoing flood situation in the state.
Barpeta Lok Sabha MP Khaleque informed about his financial contribution for the flood affected people in a post on his Facebook page.
He also stated that he had suggested Barpeta district Congress president Santanu Sarma to open a bank account for flood relief on Wednesday morning.
Khaleque further stated that he had donated his one month’s salary to that account and the entire Bongaigaon district and Dharampur LAC of Nalbari district have been included in his initiative.
Khaleque on his Facebook page stated: “This morning I suggested Shri Santanu Sarma , President, Barpeta District Congress to open a bank account for flood relief. I have decided to donate my one month salary to this fund. This initiative will include entire Bongaigaon district and Dharmapur LAC of Nalbari district.”

On the other hand, Nagaon Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi informed on his Twitter handle that he had contributed his monthly salary to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
He also asked the public to contribute to the fund for flood relief.
Bordoloi tweeted, “Assam’s flood situation has taken a turn for the worse – every contribution matters. I hope my friends join me as I donate my salary to the Assam’s Chief Minister Relief Fund.”

The step of contributing for flood relief has been taken by the Congress leaders days after the state government had requested the public to donate for the flood affected people through its website assam.mygov.in.
The Congress leaders from Assam had staged a protest in New Delhi on July 15 seeking financial contributions from the Centre for the people affected by floods in the state.
In Assam floods so far a total of 31 districts have been affected.
