Water levels have receded in Assam’s Dhubri dsitrict bringing some respite from the floods.

However, relief operations are underway in full swing across the district.

In Dhubri district, seven people have so far died in the recent wave of flood while about 30,000 peoples are still spending their nights in different relief camps across the district.

Though the water levels of most rivers flowing across the district have receded, the Brahmaputra River continues to flow above the danger mark.

With the situation gradually improving, the district is slowing limping back to normalcy.

Meanwhile, Governor of Assam on Saturday during his Dhubri visit had assured the residents of district to extend every help to tide over the flood crisis.

He also said that the state government has declared a one time ex-gratia compensation of Rs two lakh to the next kin of flood victim deceased.

More than 11 lakh people across the eight blocks of district have been affected due to the floods.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other law enforcement agencies including the Indian Army have also been deployed to carry out rescue and relief operations.

In South Salmara and Mankachar districts of lower Assam, near about six lakh people of 143 villages have so far been affected in the recent wave of flood.

Atika Sultana, deputy commissioner of South Salmara Mankachar district said that a total 205 Angadwadi centres and 68 lower primary schools have also been damaged due to the flood.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, additional director general of police, Assam on Friday visited the border area of South Salmara Mankachar district and taken stock of the international border road which was broken near Asameralaga Border Out Post.
