The operation was carried out in proper coordination with police of three districts namely Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar and Goalpara.

“Poor connectivity of roads and communication hit the operation for long hours as the accused was frequently changing his locations,” the police officer said.

“Finally, we received information about his hideout on the other side of river Brahmaputra and a team rushed to the spot and booked the culprit with the help of Goalpara district police,” said Bhuyan.

Hafizur Rahman was arrested in 2018 by Dhubri police in connection with a rape case no. 1485/18  U/S 366(A)/120(B)/376(o)/354 IPC R/W section 4 of POCSO Act had somehow escaped from the designated jail at Dhubri Girls’ College in the early wee hours of Wednesday.

Rahman, an undertrial, was among the 409 inmates of the district jail, who were shifted to the designated jail established at Dhubri Girls’ College after floodwaters inundated the original jail on Monday.
