In a day-long operation led by Trinayan Bhuyan, deputy superintendent of police (HQ), Dhubri, on Tuesday apprehended 20 people of the district for their alleged involvement in teer gambling.

The gamblers were nabbed from Sasapara of Ward No 3 under Bilasipara police station of Dhubri district.

According to police, all the persons were apprehended while they were calculating the daily sale amounts of the teer tickets.

Police seized Rs 86,030 in cash, 23 mobile phone handsets, 8 calculators and 2,500 bundles of teer tickets from their possession.

Police also managed to apprehend the main bookie identified as Jakir Hussain from the spot.

All the arrested people were booked under the Assam Gambling and Betting Act, said Bhuyan.

Earlier on July 5, two teer bookies were apprehended red-handed from Gauripur town area while five other teer bookies were nabbed on June 22 from different locations of Golakganj police station of Dhubri district during the similar drive launched by DSP Bhuyan.
