The Dhubri police on Friday late night arrested two persons and seized a huge consignment of ganja.

According to police, a Dhubri police, on a tip-off chased a goods-laden truck near Chagolia inter-state border in Dhubri district on National Highway 31 on Friday late night and arrested the two persons along with the ganja.

The truck, bearing registration No UP65-CT-6995, coming from Assam’s Barpeta district, was going towards Siliguri of West Bengal.

Police recovered a total 570 kilograms of contraband goods kept in 95 packets.

T Bhuyan, deputy superintendent of police (HQ), Dhubri, said based on specific information, he directed the naka checking team led by Sub-Inspector Bidhan Singh Basumatary, in-charge of Chagolia police outpost to conduct a search operation in the goods truck and finally seized the truck with the huge consignment of ganja.

Bhuyan also said, “In connection with the case, police have arrested two persons. They have been identified as Sunil Yadav, son of Ramawadh Yadav from Siddheshwar Talav under Naupara police station in Thane district of Maharashtra and Rudal Chouhan, son of Lalmuni Chauhan from Yakubpur under Ranipur police station of Mau district in Uttar Pradesh.”

During interrogation, as per the police, the accused duo stated that some unknown driver handed over the truck to them somewhere at Barpeta and they were asked to deliver it in some place at Siliguri of West Bengal.

Police suspect that the consignment came from Agartala.

In this connection, legal procedure has been followed and the truck was seized in presence of the cCircle officer of Agomoni of Dhubri district and a case has been registered.

The next course of investigated is underway, police officer Bhuyan added.
