Frezer Sengyung, General Secretary of Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom (JNH), the apex body of the Dimasas, has made it clear that the Dimasas living in Nagaland are staying in โ€œtotal harmonyโ€ with the Nagas and โ€œthere is not an iota of truthโ€ behind the news published in certain section of the media on July 16 last that Naga rebels were โ€œcommitting atrocitiesโ€ on the Dimasas living in Nagaland.

In a press release issued on Friday, Sengyung further stated that there was no such organisation by the name of Dimasa National Council (DNC) (read who had spread the โ€œrumourโ€ that Dimasas were being tortured in Nagaland) and JNH is the only organisation which โ€œstands for the rights and protects the interestsโ€ of the Dimasa community and works for the โ€œgreater interest of peace in the regionโ€.

The release further stated that the DNC never got in touch with the Dimasa community in Nagaland and just made a statement that Naga rebels were โ€œtorturingโ€ the Dimasa people in Nagaland. Sengyung also hoped for a โ€œpeaceful solutionโ€ to the Indo-Naga peace process.

The General Secretary further said in the press release that right from the beginning he had โ€œsmelt a ratโ€ in the said statement of the DNC for which the JNH held a meeting at Dibarai, Haflong, on July 19 last in which a lot of intellectuals of Dima Hasao district in Assam took part.

Sengyung remarked that in the meeting it surfaced that people were โ€œtotally at seaโ€ as to the existence of an organisation by the name of DNC which has led JNH to infer that a โ€œthird partyโ€ is involved who does not want the Dimasas and the Nagas to โ€œco-exist in harmonyโ€.

The โ€œso-calledโ€ leaders of DNC were asked to speak before the gathering but they could not give any โ€œsolid proof of Naga rebels riding roughshod on the Dimasa people living in Nagalandโ€.

The JNH, along with the intellectuals of Dima Hasao district, came down heavily on the DNC and its โ€œbaseless allegationsโ€ and decided to give peace a โ€œleg-upโ€. The JNH also urged both the Dimasa as well as the Naga people to be โ€œon their guardโ€ against organisations like DNC who always try to โ€œfoment communal clashesโ€.
