Frezer Sengyung, General Secretary of Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom (JNH), the apex body of the Dimasas, has made it clear that the Dimasas living in Nagaland are staying in “total harmony” with the Nagas and “there is not an iota of truth” behind the news published in certain section of the media on July 16 last that Naga rebels were “committing atrocities” on the Dimasas living in Nagaland.

In a press release issued on Friday, Sengyung further stated that there was no such organisation by the name of Dimasa National Council (DNC) (read who had spread the “rumour” that Dimasas were being tortured in Nagaland) and JNH is the only organisation which “stands for the rights and protects the interests” of the Dimasa community and works for the “greater interest of peace in the region”.

The release further stated that the DNC never got in touch with the Dimasa community in Nagaland and just made a statement that Naga rebels were “torturing” the Dimasa people in Nagaland. Sengyung also hoped for a “peaceful solution” to the Indo-Naga peace process.

The General Secretary further said in the press release that right from the beginning he had “smelt a rat” in the said statement of the DNC for which the JNH held a meeting at Dibarai, Haflong, on July 19 last in which a lot of intellectuals of Dima Hasao district in Assam took part.

Sengyung remarked that in the meeting it surfaced that people were “totally at sea” as to the existence of an organisation by the name of DNC which has led JNH to infer that a “third party” is involved who does not want the Dimasas and the Nagas to “co-exist in harmony”.

The “so-called” leaders of DNC were asked to speak before the gathering but they could not give any “solid proof of Naga rebels riding roughshod on the Dimasa people living in Nagaland”.

The JNH, along with the intellectuals of Dima Hasao district, came down heavily on the DNC and its “baseless allegations” and decided to give peace a “leg-up”. The JNH also urged both the Dimasa as well as the Naga people to be “on their guard” against organisations like DNC who always try to “foment communal clashes”.
