The Assam Congress, in an effort to expand its media outreach, has brought in some articulate and young faces as spokespersons and media panellists.

Assam Congress workers Mridul Malakar and Kamal Kumar Medhi have been appointed as the spokespersons of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) with immediate effect.

Assam PCC chief Ripun Bora issued the order on June 19 in this connection, Assam PCC general secretary (admin) Sailen Bora said in a statement.

Malakar, who was a literary secretary of Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) in Gauhati University, started his political career as an NSUI worker. He later became general secretary of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) and also secretary of Assam PCC.

Medhi, a popular poet, was in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before he switched to Congress on June 19 this year. Medhi, who became familiar as peasants’ rights activist, was associated with Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) since its inception.

He resigned from the peasants’ organisation in 2016 alleging KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi’s ‘dictatorial style’ of working in the organisation.

Benazir Arfan and Santanu Bora have been made media panellist and will represent the party’s viewpoint on electronic media.
