Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday attended as the chief guest at the Mahila Samaroh organized by Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission under Panchayat and Rural Development Department at Neherubali, Nagaon.
While addressing the gathering, Sonowal said, “The call made by Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla to the youth of Assam for conquering the world has been realised in true sense by Hima Das. Hailing from Dhing in Nagaon district, Hima has achieved remarkable success at the world stage and has brought laurels to the state as well as the country with her feats. Therefore, the Mahila Samaroh organised here in Nagaon must highlight the limitless capabilities of women in all spheres and the women participating in this Samaroh today must come forward to take responsibility in socio-economic development of the state. I talked to Hima yesterday over phone and conveyed the happiness her achievement has brought to the state.”
Highlighting the various programmes of central government like PMGSY, Ujjwala, Jan Dhan Yojna, Krishi Sinchai Yojna, Saubhagya, the chief minister said that the state government is taking up schemes like Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Asoni to empower the women from all sections of the society.
Urging the people of the state to inculcate a spirit of competitiveness for capturing the 80 crore people strong market of South East Asia, the chief minister said that the state government would act on the suggestion of MoS for Railways Rajen Gohain for sending a proposal to Airports Authority of India to open a stall for women SHGs of the state to sell their products at LGBI Airport and request Indian Railways to keep a separate chamber in all trains coming and going from the state for exhibiting these products. He also announced that three best performing SHGs would be awarded first, second, third prize which would carry cash prizes of 5 lakh, 3 lakh and 2 lakh.
Notably, the chief minister today ceremonially handed over cheques of Rs 25,000 each to 14 women SHGs of Nagaon Lok Sabha Constituency under Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Asoni. A total of 9390 women SHGs of the constituency will be provided Rs 25,000 each under the scheme for a total cost of Rs 13.33 crore.
Union MoS for Railways and Nagaon MP Rajen Gohain, Handloom and Textile Minister Ranjit Kumar Dutta, Minister of State for P&RD Naba Kumar Doley, MLAs Rupak Sarma, Shiladitya Deb, Dimbeswar Das, Shibu Mishra, GMC Deputy Mayor Bijulee Kalita Medhi also spoke in the meeting.
