Campaigning reached a crescendo for the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) elections in Dima Hasao of Assam even as it comes to a close at 5 pm on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Piyush Hazarika addressed election rallies in the hill district garnering last minute support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with host of party workers.

Addressing an election rally at the Town Field in Haflong on Wednesday, the BJP leaders were critical about the opposition Congress and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
Himanta in his speech exuded confidence that the saffron party will form the next council in the hill district, adding that the BJP can only usher all-round development in Dima Hasao.
Notably, the State Government honouring the request of Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Garlosa has released the pending salary for 10 months of the normal employees of the council.

Minister Sarma also assured that from the 12 per cent free electricity given to NEEPCO at Umrangso, six per cent will be diverted to the autonomous council.
Himanta also said that the government will release Rs 100 crore each for development of roads, water supply and construction of auditoriums in both Haflong and Diphu.
He further appealed to the voters to vote for the BJP candidates to pave way for development in the hill district.
