Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana-Ayushman Bharat more than 100 golden cards were distributed to urban beneficiaries of Tangla town for free medical health cover under the scheme here at Tangla Town Committee Office in Tangla of Udalguri district on Saturday.

The ceremonious distribution ceremony was attended as Chief Guest by Executive Member, BTC-cum-chairman of Tangla Town Committee Bonjar Daimari.

Speaking on the occasion Daimari said, “Ayushmam Bharat is an ambitious health scheme under PM Arogya Nidhi Yojna which has encompassed 10 crore population in its first phase.”

He outlined salient features and emphasized eligibility criteria.

“The beneficiaries will be entitled to free of cost medical treatment amounting to Rs 5 lakh per family, per year in any of the hospitals listed in the scheme. Together, the same family can avail the benefits of Atal Amrit Yojana up to Rs 2 lakh against six major diseases individually for each member,” he elaborated.

The brief meeting preceding the distribution was conducted by Block Programme Manager(BPM), Udalguri Block PHC, Raj D Mushahary.

The programme was also attended by Joint Director of Health Services, Udalguri, Dr Tayebbur Rehman, District Programme Manager, NHM, Nomel Singh Borgoyari, among the vice-chairman,ward commissioners besides a large of health staff, including ASHA workers.

Talking to this correspondent on the sidelines of the programme, BPM, Mushahary said it is the first such event in the entire Udalguri district.

A series of other distributions will follow under the aegis of Udalguri district administration & District and Block Health Societies.

“It’s a herculean task but we are lacking necessary manpower for which all 1000 allotted cards were not been able to be completed,” said Mushahary. He also exhorted the concerned authorities for reinforcements.
