The founder president of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA), Pradip Dutta Roy, once again lambasted NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela on Monday.
While addressing the media at his residence in Silchar, Dutta Roy termed Hajela as a ‘dictator’.
He said the NRC final list that would come out on August 31 next would be a ‘farce’ and the “people of the state would throw the list in the mighty Brahmaputra”.

“Last year in the month of September, I had said that 50 lakh names of foreigners have entered in the draft list of NRC,” Dutta Roy told Northeast Now.
“My reason of saying so was that the residents of bordering districts of Goalpara, Dhubri, Karimganj, Barpeta, Nalbari, South Salmara and Hailakandi could incorporate their names in the draft list right up to 90 to 94 per cent,” said Dutta Roy.

“In such districts, where close to 50 per cent of residents are ‘foreigners’, how come the figures show that more than 90 pc of people got enlisted in the draft list?” questioned Dutta Roy.
Dutta Roy added, “For this very reason, I have repeatedly demanded removal of those names that have been incorporated in lieu of money by the NRC authorities or due to complete negligence.”
He also said in the tribal-dominated hill districts, where the figures should have at least 95 per cent of names in the draft list, “more than 28 to 30 per cent are still out of it”.
Dutta Roy questioned, “Is it not a major blunder that Prateek Hajela doing? Don’t you think that Hajela’s dictatorial attitude would land us in getting an ‘error filled’ NRC list?”
He also said the “state government on August 1 spoke openly against Hajela” and is saying the same thing that he had already spoken about a year back.
“What type of NRC is he (Hajela) preparing? A hearing is slated to come up in the Supreme Court on August 7 next, and I would appeal to the apex court to hear what the people of Assam have to say, what its government has to say for bringing out an error-free NRC list,” said the founder president of ACKHSA.
Regarding the discussion on Barak-Brahmaputra and its bonhomie at the last state Assembly session initiated by speaker Hitendranathn Goswami, he said, “It is indeed a welcome move and no one can hide the fact that this session was a brainchild of the chief minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, who has relentlessly tried for better bonds between these two valleys.”
Dutta Roy also appealed to recruit people from the Barak Valley while posting in third and fourth grade jobs in the valley and not to recruit people from the Brahmaputra valley.
He also sought setting up of a bench of Gauhati High Court in Silchar.
“It would be an icing in the cake for building an everlasting relationship between Barak and Brahmaputra,” added Dutta Roy.
