Sensation prevailed in greater Bajali area after the body of a youth was recovered from a paddy field in Balapara area in Sarthebari under Barpeta district on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Akhim Kalita who was charged with assaulting a student of Bajali College few days back.
According to police reports, few days back 20-year-old Kishor Gayan, who is pursuing his graduation in Bajali College at Pathsala, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon by Akhim. Since then Akhim was missing.

Kishor, who was stabbed in his chest, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in North Guwahati. Following the stabbing incident, Kishor’s family members filed a case against 28-year-old Akhim Kalita on suspicion of “attacking” Kishor. The incident happened when the victim had gone out from his house on Monday at around 9 pm. Akhim suddenly attacked him with a sharp weapon and ran away from the scene on a bike, eyewitnesses said.
On Wednesday, a case was registered against Akhim – Case No 370/18 under Section 326 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). On Thursday, Akhim’s decomposed body was found at a paddy field in Balapara area under Sarthebari Police Station. The body of the victim has been sent for postmortem to the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Barpeta and further investigation is on, informed Pranab Das, In-charge of Balapara Police Outpost.
