In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old youth, identified as Kishor Gayan, who is a student of BA 3rd Semester in Bajali College at Pathsala in Barpeta was attacked with a sharp weapon by a person on Monday at Bharegaon in Sarthebari Police Station under Barpeta district.
Kishor Gayan is the son of Sadananda Gayan and Sarasati Gayan of Bharegaon village in Barpeta district.
He received serious injuries in his chest. His family members have filed a case against 28-year-old Akhim Kalita age  of the same village for attacking Kishor.
As per information, when the victim went out from his home on Monday at around 9 pm Akhim suddenly attacked him with a sharp weapon and ran away from the scene on a bike, eyewitness said.
It has been learnt from police sources that a seriously injured Kishor was admitted to a nearby hospital but the doctor immediately referred him to Guwahati for better treatment.
Currently, seriously injured Kishor Gayan is undergoing treatment in ICU at GNRC, Amingaon in North Guwahati.
The intention of the attacker is yet not clear.
Police have registered a case (No 370/18) under Section 326 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). But the accused along with his family members are still evading police.
“The police have launched a massive operation to nab the culprit involve in the attack,” Pranab Das, In-charge of Balapara Police Outpost, told Northeast Now.
Meanwhile, Bajali College Students Union has demanded that the culprit be immediately arrested, said Rakesh Talukdar, general secretary of Bajali College Students Union.
