As part of their efforts against smuggling of drugs, the Nagaon police on Friday were able to arrest an infamous drug mafia in the district.

According to Nagaon police, the arrested drug mafia has been identified as Lookman Hussain alias Lookman Ali.

Nagaon Police claimed that he had been absconding and was in the ‘wanted’ list in connection with a Nagaon Police Station case No 243/18, under section 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances  (NDPS), Act.

Lookman Hussain was arrested in connection with the Nagaon PS case No 243/18.

Informing about the arrest, Nagaon Police on its Twitter handle on Friday stated: “Today morning apprehended infamous drug mafia Lookman Hussain alias Lookman Ali who was absconding and wanted in relation with Nagaon P.S Case No 243/18, U/S 22(c) NDPS Act. He is being arrested in relation with this case and police remand is being sought.”

According to information, the operation was carried out by a special operation team of Nagaon Police in association with a police team of Itasali Police Outpost.

The drug mafia was arrested from Mohghuli area near Nagaoan town.

Police sources informed that 400 bottles of banned cough syrup and 18000 intoxicating tablets were recovered from the possession of Lookman Ali.

Nagaon Police produced Ali in the court on Friday which remanded him to 7-day police custody.

The police continue to interrogate the arrested drug mafia to gather more information from him to unearth the drug smuggling racket remain active in the area.

On the other hand, finger has been pointed towards the Drug Inspector of the district for his alleged silence regarding smuggling of drugs in Nagaon.
