A total of 45 candidates have filed nominations for the five Lok Sabha constituencies that are going to polls on the first phase in Assam on April 11.

Officials of the office of Chief Electoral Officer here said this on Moday while adding that Lakhimpur constituency has the highest 12 candidates filing nominations while only seven candidates filed nominations from Kaliabar Lok Sabha constituency.

In Tezpur, ten candidates have filed nominations while in Dibrugarh and Jorhat Lok Sabha constituencies, eight candidates each have filed nominations.

Monday was the last date for filing nominations for the constituencies that are going to polls in the first phase.

Although a total of 2,17,60,604 electorates are set to cast their votes in the Lok Sabha polls in Assam, 75,16,284 electorates casting their votes on the first phase.

Prominent names among the candidates who filed nominations for the first phase includes Gaurav Gogoi (Congress), Mani Madhab Mahanta (AGP) in Kaliabar, former bureaucrat MGVK Bhanu (Congress) and state minister Pallab Lochan Das (BJP) in Tezpur, state power minister Tapan Gogoi (BJP) and  Sushanta Borgohain (Congress), former Lok Sabha MP, Paban Singh Ghatowar (Congress) and sitting Lok Sabha MP Rameswar Teli (BJP) in Dibrugarh, Sitting MP Pradan Boruah (BJP) and Anil Buragohain (Congress) in Lakhimpur.
