Vijaynagar violence: Foreign links probed, informs Arunachal Pradesh IGP

The police in Arunachal Pradesh is probing into possible foreign links into the December 11 Vijaynagar violence.

This was informed by Arunachal Pradesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) – Chukhu Apa.

Notably, during the violent protests that broke out at Vijaynagar in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, two Government offices – one each of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Special Investigation Branch (SIB) were set ablaze by an unruly mob.

“The police are probing into all possible aspects including foreign links,” said Arunachal Pradesh IGP Chukhu Apa.

Further informing about the investigation process into the violence in Vijaynagar, the Arunachal Pradesh IGP said that till date as many as 6 cases have been registered in regards to the violence.

“The Special Investigation Team (SIT), Itanagar is conducting investigations in the case,” Chukhu Apa added.

It may be mentioned here that the police in Arunachal Pradesh have arrested a total of 26 persons in connection with the violence in Vijaynagar.

It may be mentioned here that normalcy is slowly returning to the remote Arunachal Pradesh town of Vijaynagar.

Violent protests broke out at Vijaynagar on December 11 with several government offices being gutted by protesters over the voting rights of former Assam Rifles personnel in the panchayat polls.

Vijaynagar is a small border town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district and is surrounded by Myanmar on three sides.
