The First Lady of Arunachal Pradesh Neelam Misra visited the Craft Centre of the Department of Textile and Handicrafts in the Industrial Estate at Naharlagun on Wednesday.

First Lady Misra also urged the departmental officials to open outlets in metro cities and other places for display and sale of the authentic traditional products of Arunachal Pradesh.

First Lady Misra went around various sections of the craft centre, including the Computer-Aided Design Centre, which is first of its kind set up in the Industrial Estate.

Interacting with the officials of the Textile and Handicrafts Department and artisans, the First Lady of the State emphasized that production of indigenous handloom and handicraft items must be promoted amongst the youth.

She said, “The age-old traditional handloom and handicraft traditions like weaving, thanka painting, wooden mask making and exotic wood carving are the pride and identity of our indigenous communities and it must be promoted and preserved.”

“By motivating and encouraging the youth, particularly the young girls, we will be able to promote their inborn artistic potentials and enhance, in large way, the avenues for youth entrepreneurship, self employment and socio-economic empowerment,” she further said.

The Director, Textile and Handicrafts, Arunachal Pradesh, Haj Dodung briefed the First Lady about the Centre.
