ITANAGAR: The National People’s Party (NPP) has formally extended its support to the Pema Khandu-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Arunachal Pradesh.

This was announced by Arunachal Pradesh NPP president Thangwang Wangham on Thursday (June 20).

Arunachal Pradesh NPP president Thangwang Wangham, who is also an MLA in the state assembly, said: “Although the NPP is already part of the BJP under the NDA, today we officially submitted our letter of support to the chief minister.”

With this, Congress MLA Kumar Waii now stands as the sole opposition member in the Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly.

The NPP has five legislators in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu said: “I am deeply thankful to the National People’s Party (NPP) for their invaluable support to the BJP government in Arunachal Pradesh.”

“The letter of support, signed by five esteemed NPP MLAs, signifies a strong and united commitment to the development and prosperity of our state,” he said.

“Together, we will continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of Arunachal Pradesh and its people,” the Arunachal Pradesh chief minister added.

NPP had contested is 20 seats in the recently held Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections, securing victories in five.

Meanwhile, the BJP, which contested all 60 seats in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections, won 46 seats, including 10 unopposed victories.
