The Congress in Arunachal Pradesh has forged an alliance with Peoples’ Party of Arunachal Pradesh and said that the party is looking for other like-minded parties to contest the forthcoming polls.

While the country is going to Lok Sabha polls, polls to the 60 member Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls. There are two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh.

“The Congress would have a pre-poll alliance with the Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA). Talks are also on with Janta Dal (Secular) to strengthen the alliance,” said Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Takam Sanjoy.

“We are open for alliance with all like-minded anti-BJP parties. Our party wants to contest the polls together and we are ready to adjust some seats with the like-minded parties so that the saffron party can be prevented,” Sanjoy said.

Former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Gegong Apang had recently resigned from the BJP and joined the JD (S).

He said that the party is ready for the polls—both Lok Sabha and assembly and said that it will announce the names of its candidates in a few days time.
