The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday termed the reduction in fuel price as announced by the BJP led central and state government on Thursday as ‘nothing more but a bad joke played on the people of the state and country’.

Giving a slight relief to the common man, the centre had on October 4 announced a cut of Rs 2.50 per litre on diesel and petrol across the country. Following suit, the Arunachal Pradesh along with some other BJP ruled states also opted to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre, hence providing the consumers in the state a relief of Rs 5.

However, within a day of the announcement the prices were on the rise again. Petrol price was hiked by 18 paise a litre on October 6 and 14 paise on Sunday, according to daily price notification issued by state-owned oil firms.

“After the astounding announcement of the BJP government to reduce the prices of fuel, the people of country, particularly those in BJP ruled stated felt a sigh of relief. But surprisingly, the price of fuel started to increase everyday as it was earlier. We (Congress) had already expressed apprehension on the decision and were sure of BJP’s conspiracy to befool the people. Indeed it was a political gimmick as five states are going into polls in a few months,” APCC vice president (headquarters) Minkir Lollen said in a statement on Monday.

The Congress further demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to answer the people of the country on the ‘eye wash’ announcement made by his government.
