In a major setback to NSCN(K) five overground workers of the outfit were apprehended on Saturday by the Longding Battalion of the Army at Longding in eastern Arunachal Pradesh.

“In the series of intense operations against the outfit, Palai Wangsa, Bankpoh Lukham, Langphua Lukham, Akbar Sheikh and Imtijaj Rehman were apprehended with extortion money amounting to Rs 4 lakhs and other incriminating evidence in form of photographs and mobile contacts of insurgents,” stated an Army press release.

Security forces have been carrying out relentless operations in south Arunachal Pradesh to keep the area peaceful and out of clutches of insurgents and these apprehensions will go a long way in creating fear among the anti-national elements in the area.

In a spree of operations, in past three days, the battalion has apprehended eight overground and linkmen of banned outfits and has recovered more than Rs 1,6,00,000 of extortion money.
