Section 144 has been imposed in Vijoynagar Circle in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Changlang Deputy Commissioner (DC) Devansh Yadav imposed Section 144 on Monday in the Vijoynagar Circle, prohibiting gathering of five (5) or more persons.

The step has been taken by the Changlang District Administration following plans by the All Yobin Students’ Union on Tuesday.

Issuing a stern warning to the violators, Changlang DC Devansh Yadav has said, “Those who indulged in violence will be dealt with as per Government rules and law.”

The Changlang District Administration has further invited all stakeholders for “constructive discussion for a common peaceful future.”

“All issues can be resolved by talks and discussions and district administration will protect interest of all our citizens,” said Changlang DC.

Appealing community leaders to let peace prevail, the Changlang DC has urged the youths of the area to abide by law and Government orders.

“We appeal to all youths and public leaders to abide by Government orders and COVID restrictions,” said Changlang DC.

It may be mentioned here that normalcy is slowly returning to the remote Arunachal Pradesh town of Vijoynagar.

Violent protests broke out at Vijoynagar on December 11 with several government offices being gutted by protesters over the voting rights of former Assam Rifles personnel in the panchayat polls.

As many as 24 persons have been arrested thus far in connection with December 11 arson and rioting that rocked Vijoynagar.

Vijoynagar is a small border town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district and is surrounded by Myanmar on three sides.
