Dibrugarh: An NSCN-KYA cadre surrendered to security forces during a joint operation in Arunachal Pradeshโs Longding district on Monday.
The surrendered cadre has been identified as Akha alias Khawang Wangsu (38), a resident of Longphong village in Longding district.
An Assam Rifles official said that on January 19, intelligence inputs indicated the presence of an active insurgent in the Longding bazaar area. A joint operation was launched by personnel from Khonsa Battalion and Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Police.
โOur ground sources made contact with the insurgent and persuaded him to surrender. After several hours, he agreed to lay down arms,โ the official said.
He added that the individual was taken into custody by the joint team and later handed over to Longding police station for further legal proceedings.
The official said the surrender highlighted the role of security forces in maintaining peace and normalcy in insurgency-affected areas through counter-insurgency operations and community engagement.
Ahead of Republic Day, security forces have intensified operations in eastern Arunachal Pradesh to prevent any untoward incidents, the official added.
