Dibrugarh: An active cadre of the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) was arrested during a joint operation by security forces and Arunachal Pradesh Police in the Pangsau area of Longding district on Wednesday evening.

The arrested insurgent has been identified as SS 2nd Lieutenant Wanglai Wangsa alias Laipa Wangsa.

Security personnel recovered a semi-automatic pistol, one magazine and five rounds of live 7.65 mm ammunition from his possession.

“We have arrested an active cadre of NSCN (K-Angmai) and registered Case No. 4/2026 under Sections 25(1A)/27 of the Arms Act read with Sections 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The case has been taken up for investigation,” a police official said.

According to police sources, Wangsa joined the outfit in 2012.

Police said he was also wanted in Longding Police Station Case No. 43/2022, registered under Sections 302/34 of the IPC, Sections 25(1A)/27 of the Arms Act and Sections 10/13 of the UAPA, in connection with the murder of Attar Sharma.

The arrest comes days after Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police apprehended another alleged NSCN-K (Ang Mai) cadre during a joint operation in Tirap district.

The arrested cadre, identified as Longsom Losu alias Gangsa (32), a resident of Tirap district, was held following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of an underground operative in the area.

Security forces recovered a 7.65 mm pistol, one magazine, 10 live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition and a bag from his possession.

Security forces have intensified operations against insurgent groups in eastern Arunachal Pradesh in an effort to curb militant activities in the region.
