As many as 80 villages falling under the jurisdiction of Tirap district administration in Arunachal Pradesh have vowed not to pay any extortion money to the insurgent outfits operating out of the district.
This promise was made by Gaon Burhas of 80 villages during a security co-ordination meeting held at Assam Rifles base at Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district.
The Gaon Burhas said that they see no point in paying extortion money to the militants, as the security forces have been providing the villagers with the required security.
The meeting was chaired by Commanding Officer of 6 Assam Rifles battalin – Colonel AK Das and was attended by senior police officials and officials from the Tirap district administration.

The villagers of Tirap district further said that the militants often take away their livestock, forcing them to abandon rearing cattle.
Notably, the jungles in the districts of Tirap, Changlang and Longding have been the hub of insurgent outfits from the Northeast.
