A local court in Sivasagar on Friday sent Debashis Khargharia, who was arrested by police in connection with the case of abatement of his parents’ suicide, to three day police custody.
Acting on a complaint filed by his sister Monika, Debasis was arrested from Six Mile area in Guwahati on Wednesday after being at large for 18 days.
Debashis, however, on Thursday denied allegations of not bearing the medical expenses of father Rajani Khargharia and mother Rubi Khargharia.
“There are always two sides of a story. The truth is yet to come out. One can check the medical records….people are saying I didn’t pay for my parents’ medical expenses. I will prove everything…. I will say everything,” he told reporters while he was being taken to court.
Meanwhile, two of Debashis’ sisters — eldest sister Mridusmita and third of the trio Monika — have taken opposite stands after the arrest of their brother.
While Mridusmita is of the view that her brother is innocent and blames her parents for their tragic fate, Monika, who had filed the police complaint against brother Debashis, blames him for their parents’ deaths.
Monika expressed her unhappiness over Sivasagar police failing to arrest her sister-in-law (Debashis’ wife Getasree) despite reports that the couple had been together while they were on the run.
