Sensation continues to prevail after the incident of suicide by Rajani Khargharia, once established businessman, producer of serial and his wife Rubi Khargharia, at their rented house in Sivasagar after being neglected by their only son, who is an ONGC employee.

Rajani Khargharia has left an 11-page suicide note where he explained about the neglect he along with his wife had received from their son, Debasish Khargharia and daughter-in-law during their life.

Debasish Khargharia, for whose prosperity, the Khargharia couple did everything, sold their house, land and costly vehicle and even a hotel, has reportedly gone underground, following the incident.

As per information, Debasish Khargharia did not reach the rented house at Sivasagar town where the Khargharia couple committed suicide on July 1, 2018, to see his parents for the last time.

On the other hand, as per reports, one of the daughters of Rajani Khargharia, the youngest sister of Debasish Khargharia, has lodged an FIR at the Sivasagar Police Station against her brother (Debasish) holding him responsible for their parents.

The mortal remains of Rajani Khargharia and his wife Rubi Khargharia were cremated at Bhajani village in Dhitaipukhuri of Sivasagar district.

Meanwhile, Rita Khargharia, a daughter-in-law of Rajani Kharghari in relation, who was suffering from heart ailment, breathed her last after being shocked at the incident.

The incident of Khargharia couple committing suicide due to extreme neglect by their only son has been condemned by all.

According to reports, police also started an operation in search of Debasish Khargharia. On Monday police visited his in-laws’ house at Demow in Sivasagar.

On being asked what action the Government would take against the son of Rajani Khargharia, Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told media persons, ONGC does not come under the ambit of the Assam Employees’ Parents Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring Act, 2017 (PRANAM Act). “He (Debasish Khargharia) would have faced punishment if he was an Assam Government employee,” said Sarma.

Sarma added, “We will have to check if his (Rajani Khargharia) daughter-in-law falls under the ambit of PRANAM Act.” He also said such unfortunate people could have been extended support through the Social Welfare Department.

It may be mentioned that the PRANAM Act, 2017 has made it compulsory for the State Government employees to take care of their dependent parents and disabled siblings sans any income source with immediate effect.

While Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said no one should forget humanity. He said, “All sections of people should co-perate in successful implementation of the PRANAM Act.”

Reacting to the Khargharia couple’s suicide incident, Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass expressed his grave concern over the growing son-centric mentality of the parents.

Dass said, “We must leave the mentality of ignoring girl children. I hope, such discriminations would lessen if we equally give respect to the girl children.”
