The armed forces Veterans Day will be celebrated at the Air Force Station in Guwahati on January 14 next.

January 14 is celebrated as ‘Veterans Day’ as a mark of respect, recognition and service rendered by Field Marshal K M Carriapa OBE, the first Indian Commander in Chief of the Indian Army, who retired on this day in 1953.

It is a unique initiative of the services to acknowledge and honour the selfless devotion and sacrifice by the veterans who have served the nation during their prime years and still continue to do so in various capacities.

Amongst other places in the country, the day will be celebrated in the Northeast at Air Force Station of Borjhar in Guwahati on that day in conjunction with Army units assisted by Rajya Sainik Board.

The event will include wreath laying ceremony by serving personnel and veterans at the War Memorial of the Air Force Station followed by  talks by representatives of PCDA, Directorate of Air Veterans, ECHS, Air Force Group Insurance Society and Director of Rajya Sainik Board.

This would enable the veterans to get updated on new policies and matters related to pensions and other relevant aspects. In addition, stalls will be set up by various Banks, Air Forces Wives Welfare Association, Directorate of Indian Air veterans etc.

The event will commence on January 14 from 9 am onwards.

This was stated in a defence press release.
