Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday began his two-day Nepal visit from Janakpur. Modi was warmly welcomed at the Janaki temple dedicated to Sita, by Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The Indian Prime Minister offered special prayers at 20th century Janaki temple in Janakpur.

Visit to Janaki temple is a memorable experience for me, Narendra Modi wrote in the visitor’s book at the Janaki temple. “My years-long wish to visit the Janaki temple has finally been fulfilled,” PM Modi wrote in the visitors’ book. Janakpur is a testimony to the deep-rooted cultural ties between our nations and Janaki Mandir – a living testimony to the eternal cultural connect between India and Nepal and our people, Modi tweeted.

The visiting Indian Prime Minister thanked Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for accompanying him to the Janaki Mandir earlier on Friday.

On his arrival in Janakpur, capital of ancient city of Mithila ruled by King Janak, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received by Nepal Defence Minister Ishwar Pokhrel, Chief Minister of Province 2 Mohd Lal Babu, Mayor Lal Kishore Shah and other dignitaries.

Addressing a civic reception in Janakpur, the Indian Prime Minister focussed on the strong historical links between India and Nepal. He also highlighted the potential of the ties in the present and how a robust India-Nepal friendship augurs well for the people of both countries.

Both Indian PM Modi and Nepal PM Oli flagged off the Janakpur-Ayodhya bus service. The bus service links the birthplaces links Janakpur, the birthplace to Sita, to Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, the birthplace of lord Ram.
