The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Thursday celebrated 73rd Independence Day of India with pomp and gaiety.
The Indian Tricolour was hoisted by Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri.
After unfurling the national flag, Puri read out Indian President Ram Nath Kovind‘s message for the occasion and it highlighted Indian achievements of the past 72 years since independence on August 15, 1947.
On the occasion, Ambassador Puri felicitated three ‘Veer Naris’, five widows and six next of kin of deceased soldiers.
He also donated Rs 5.31 crore and a blanket to each of them.
Books were also gifted to 40 libraries and other educational institutions from all over Nepal by the Indian embassy.
As a goodwill gesture, the Embassy also gifted 30 ambulances and 6 buses to various hospitals, non-profit charitable organisations and educational institutions of the country.
The Independence Day celebration was attended by a host of dignitaries including members of Indian communities in Nepal and friends of India, apart from embassy officials and their families.
