New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was reportedly arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday in connection with an ongoing liquor probe, becoming the second sitting chief minister to face such action recently after Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren.

Earlier today, the Delhi High Court declined to provide interim protection from coercive action.

Delhi Minister Atishi Marlena stated, “We have filed a petition in the Supreme Court to quash the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate. We are urgently seeking a hearing from the Supreme Court tonight.”

In response to the situation, four companies of paramilitary forces and over 100 Delhi Police personnel have been stationed in and around the Enforcement Directorate headquarters.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi reacted to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating, “Targeting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in this manner, especially during elections, is wholly inappropriate and unconstitutional. This degradation of political standards neither befits the Prime Minister nor his government.”
