Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday dismissed the claims linking migratory with coronavirus outbreak.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the 13th Convention on the Conservation of ‘Migratory Species of Wild Animals’, Javadekar said a ‘fear psychosis’ is being created on the subject of coronavirus.
“Let’s not create a fear psychosis on the subject. There is no connection of coronavirus with migratory birds,” he said.
“As far as diseases or viruses from birds and animals are concerned, the conference will discuss these issues,” he further added.
Meanwhile, China on Monday appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s letter to President Xi Jinping offering assistance to deal with the outbreak.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Gen Shuang said that India’s act of goodwill fully demonstrates its friendship with China.
“We thank and appreciate India’s support for China’s fight against the novel coronavirus,” Shuang added.
In a letter to Jinping, Modi thanked him for facilitating the evacuation of over 600 Indians who were stranded in Wuhan and they have been quarantined.
The outbreak has so far killed over 900 people and infected nearly 40,000 more in China alone.
